art direction & design
I spent two decades in advertising and design working for a variety of clients as a freelancer and ad/design shop guy. As time went on I morphed more into an illustrator than anything else, realizing that all the boxes were checked in a medium I love most: digital-collage-3D-paint-editorial illustration™.

However, here's a smattering of art direction and design, so yeah I really know the minds of art directors and designers - even the dark corners.
Starbucks

Starbucks started an in-house advertising and design agency, "'71" which I was apart of. It ran the gamut from print ads to product design. These are some of the projects I worked on as art director/designer/illustrator.

Microsoft

I art directed this piece and I'm proud to say it survived 9 rounds of panel review, each asking who Mary Ellen Mark was. A favorite shot of mine.
UW Medicine
I art directed these print ads and TV spots as part of a campaign to get the University of Washington Medicine at the forefront of non-profit healthcare. The campaign ran from print to broadcast - including a logo redesign that would be a fixture on all hospital signage. The following year they made the top 10 non-profits in healthcare list put out by US News & World Report.

The Matale Line
I art directed and designed the leave behind for The Matale Line - who, in their own words: "It is time for social impact organizations to become uncomfortable with incremental progress. Time to abandon the paradigm of “fixing” tactical pain points in one “department”..."

THINK
For the advertising agency THINK, Seattle I art directed and designed a leave behind and business cards that bespoke their intentions in the advertising world.

Sound Transit, Seattle
I art directed these transit ads for Seattle's only bus line. Originally the grandmother was cranky and Jewish, but then I was reminded it was the Northwest.

Outback Mountain Boards
I art directed and photographed these POP posters. You have to be insane to strap a board with wheels to your feet then point it down a mountain.

Various things

More stuff that I art directed and designed and had more fun than one should be allowed to in such a profession.
